At SMG Performance Badminton, we take pride in our team of experienced and passionate coaches. Our team is dedicated to developing players of all levels, from beginners to elite competitors.


Sol Griffiths - Head Coach

Sol is an experienced coach who has played a key role in Gloucestershire badminton for over a decade. A former Gloucestershire County Coach for more than 10 years, he studied at the University of Bath and was mentored by the legendary Pete Bush. As a player, Sol has won the Gloucestershire Men's Singles title six times and has represented the Gloucestershire Senior 1st Team over 50 times. His expertise and leadership make him a driving force behind SMG Performance Badminton.

Bex Pantaney - Lead Coach

Bex brings a wealth of experience at the highest levels of badminton. A former Junior National Coach and a UKCC Level 3-certified coach, she has competed on the world stage, winning Commonwealth Gold with Team England in Kuala Lumpur. She is currently ranked No. 2 in the world for Ladies' Singles in her age group and has claimed an impressive 23 medals at major events. Her knowledge and competitive experience provide invaluable guidance to our players.

Jamie Pearcy - Senior Player and Lead Coach

Jamie is one of England's top badminton players, currently ranked No. 9 in the country for Men's Singles. He has twice reached the quarter-finals of the National Championships and has won a Senior Gold on the Badminton England circuit. His experience competing at the highest level gives him a unique insight into elite performance and player development.

Hannah Mutlow - Coach

Hannah is a qualified physiotherapist who has been an integral part of Gloucestershire's junior county coaching team for the past three years. She plays for Gloucestershire's second team and also coaches at Falcons Badminton Club. Her combination of coaching experience and physiotherapy knowledge makes her a key asset to our team.

Owen Waters - Coach

Owen studied at the University of Gloucestershire and is a fully qualified physiotherapist. He plays at a high level, representing Devon in county competitions and currently ranks inside the top 100 for Men's Singles in England. His expertise in injury prevention and recovery ensures our athletes stay in peak condition.

Cameron Pearcy – Coach

Cameron is an experienced coach at Oxstalls Badminton Academy Club as well as junior county, where he helps develop young players. As a competitor, he plays for Gloucestershire's second team, bringing valuable match experience to his coaching sessions. Cameron is also the lead coach for Gloucestershire county junior badminton and there he works to improve and help the best players in Gloucestershire.
